Many Scottish workers have been exposed to silica dust in Scotland. The people most at risk are those working in construction, quarrying, stone-working, grinding, mining industries as well as sand-blasting and glass manufacturing.

Any worker coming into contact with dust from stones, rocks or sand will be at risk of inhaling silica dust. When silica dust is inhaled over a prolonged period of time, the particles cause damage and scarring to the lung tissues, preventing the lungs from working properly.

If you have worked in these industries and been exposed to silica dust for a prolonged period of time, contact Redress today we can advise you in making a Silicosis compensation claim.

Silicosis is an industrial respiratory disease caused by inhalation of silica dust, which leads to inflammation and scarring of the lung tissue.

Our role at Redress is to ensure that everyone affected by Silicosis see the quality of their lives improve following the award of cash compensation.

If you have developed Silicosis then you have a potential claim for compensation.

Types of Silicosis

Acute Silicosis is an industrial disease resulting from short term exposure. Sufferers of this condition will have been exposed to large amounts of silica over a very short period of time. People suffering from acute silicosis will have low blood oxygen levels and may even suffer from fluid filled lungs, causing severe shortness of breath.

Chronic Silicosis is an industrial disease resulting from long term exposure. It is normally found in people who have been inhaling silica dust more than 20 years. Sufferers of chronic silicosis will likely experience breathing difficulties after the silica dust has caused inflammation and damage in their lungs and chest lymph nodes.

Accelerated silicosis results from exposure to larger amounts of silica over a shorter period of time. Accelerated silicosis is normally found in people who have been inhaling silica dust from 5 to 15 years, causing inflammation and scarring. These symptoms progress faster in accelerated silicosis.
