Claimant:Jane Home
Claim: Ayrshire Accident on a boat
Award: £5,000 in compensation

Ms Home fell down a flight of stairs on the Greenock ferry. The accident occurred in circumstances where she had a very clear and strong case for compensation.

She initially went to other solicitors who overlooked the fact that there are very peculiar rules in law about the time frame within which an injured party must bring a claim for compensation for injury on a boat.

Whereas in a normal case a victim of accident has 3 years to raise a Court action, they have only 2 years when the accident occurs on the sea on a boat.

The other solicitors overlooked this and allowed the 2 year period to pass without raising a Court action. They therefore time barred Ms Home’s right to proceed with her strong claim against the ships owners.

Ms Home sought the advice of the Redress lawyers who immediately pursued a claim against the solicitor who had been negligent and obtained £5,000 in compensation for her.
